11 keys to find out what your poop is telling you │ How to restore gut health (and the power of the castor oil pack) w/ Dr. Marisol

Ari Whitten: Hey everyone. Welcome back to the Energy Blueprint Podcast. I’m Ari Whitten, your host, and today, I am with Dr. Marisol Teijero, who is a world leader, renowned for her passion for cleansing and gut health. Not only because, and by the way, I want to preface by saying this is the best and the funniest bio that I’ve ever seen. So get ready to have some fun with this.

She’s a world-renowned leader for her passion for cleansing and gut health, not only because she has the degree on her wall, but more so because she’s experienced feeling shitty and figured out how to get healthy.

Crowned the Queen of Thrones for over 15 years, she’s trained and educated healthcare practitioners and has helped thousands of patients transition from shit show to owning their throne. Dr. Marisol directs and practices at Sanas Health Practice in Canada. She spearheaded PuraSanas health supplements and invented the Queen of Thrones organic castor oil pack and line of products. The launch of her book, “Oh, Shit,” her educational conferences and programs heralds her championing you to become your legend. Join her movement and help her achieve her goal of being in 1 billion bathrooms by 2020. We can do it.

So I love that bio. I was just telling her before we started recording that this is the best bio I’ve ever seen. So hopefully you guys had fun listening to that. So with that said, welcome Dr. Marisol, such a pleasure to have you.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Oh, thank you so much. I’m so excited to speak with your people and speak with you about my passion which is poop.

Ari Whitten: Yeah, so I have to say that I love how you’ve taken this topic which is normally a very taboo thing that people don’t want to talk about, probably especially women don’t want to talk about, and you’ve made it non-taboo. And you’ve not only that, not only have you made it like a comfortable thing to speak about openly, but you’ve actually managed to make it fun and funny, which is amazing. So I’m excited to get into this now. One thing I want to comment on is you were crowned the Queen of Thrones, so I’m curious how you got that title and maybe you can intertwine into this story of that title kind of your general background and how you became interested in this topic.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Absolutely. So I’m Spanish from background, half from Spain and half from South America, born in Canada. And in our home, we were actually quite open all the time in speaking about poor. So for us it wasn’t ever anything that we shied about. My mother would be like, “Hey, come look what I did in the toilet” and I’d be the same with my mother, right? But growing up I always had irritable bowel and I was actually constipated all the time, as was my mother.

My father, he had the opposite extreme, right, where he had irritable bowel but it was more of a diarrhea type. Fast forward in my life later on, and I’m working in the natural health industry, I’m training naturopathic doctors. I start living a life full of stress and of course I flip over from an irritable bowel constipation over to a diarrhea based irritable bowel. And it was a really tough time in my life because I was considering going back to school to become a naturopathic doctor and I was back and forth because along with irritable bowel comes a lot of different problems, hormone problems, energy problems, right?

Just the whole gamut, right? And I was back and forth. I decided, you know, I’ve learned so much in my career already, like I need to go and become the doctor so that I can get the answers that I’ve been looking for because I wasn’t getting the answers from the doctors that I needed. Right?

And being super diligent and super studious and when I set something in my mind like that it’s going to happen. I call myself… I just actually bought a poster today, I should have brought it out because it’s… You know the term “gold digger?” Well, I’m not a gold digger, but I’m a “goal digger.” So once I find a goal in mind, I just dig deep, as deep as I can until I figure out the solution for it. And that’s eventually what happened is that I, you know, I focused and focused on gut health.

I got really sick again during naturopathy school, of course, because of all the stress and with an irritable bowel I wasn’t observing my food properly and I was constantly in pain. And, you know, I went through the journey of going to multiple different naturopaths even, and finally finding one that would test me properly and would ask me the right questions. And all along the way through, with every practitioner, I went to I learned. And with everything I used on myself, I learned. And then I set up my clinic and just the focus became gut health and how to get the gut as healthy as possible. And you know, we do colon hydrotherapy in the clinic, which is where you actually clean the intestines. And you know, my patients I’m renowned, most patients have come to me because they’ve heard me speak about my analysis of poo and what is the perfect poo, what I like to call the “royal flush.”

And so our conversations on first visit is all about, you know, are you a hyper wiper? They get to learn all the terms and then from visit to visit to visit automatically my patients just tell me what their stools are like. It’s one of the first things that we open our talk with, right? Because they know how important it is. And one of my patients, one day I was walking through our intravenous room and on the way to the colon hydrotherapy system to go talk with a patient, and one of my patients just said, “Boy, you love talking about poo, you’re like the queen of the throne.” And, you know, I just like, I kind of stood there and I looked at them and I go “You know, in so many ways, this is perfect for me because, number one, I do, I love speaking about stools and poo.” And I guess before that I really didn’t own it.

I just wasn’t like, “Oh this is what I want to do as a career, just talk about poo and teach people about their poo.” But then I was also, when I was younger as a teenager and a young adult, I was Miss Ontario, second runner-up as Miss Canada. So I had a history being like a pageant queen. So I thought, you know, in so many ways this is just perfect because I can really own that title of being the Queen of the Thrones and making that my mission. So from that moment on something shifted and I still maintained my clinical practice, still worked with all my patients, my loving patients, but I’ve evolved to going from a clinic where I’m one-on-one to now going to many to really spread the message and change how the medical community and how people look at stools.

Ari Whitten: That’s awesome. Yeah. And I love it, it’s such a perfect fit, right? That you have this background in beauty pageants and then you transitioned into poo. It’s like probably like literally the last person that you would expect to transition into a job focused on poo.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: I know. And I think back to like even Miss Canada. You know most pageant queens are like, “I’m going to save the world.” So I guess mine “saving the world through poo” would be my mantra these days.

Why Dr. Marisol decided to focus on poop

Ari Whitten: That’s great. This is the most entertaining background story that I’ve ever heard someone give, so well done. So let’s talk about this. Obviously you’re very into gut health. And unquestionably there’s a huge amount of science around that’s, I would say, still in its infancy at this point. But we’re learning more and more every day about the links between gut health and brain health and autoimmune disease and chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia and all kinds of different things.

Why, you know, within the realm of gut health, why are you uniquely focused on poo. And it seems that, you know, among gut experts, you’ve gone really deep on poo and in really analyzing that and what it says about gut health and what it says about your health more broadly. How did that happen? How did you kind of go on that trajectory focused uniquely on poo, I’d say more so than most gut experts.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Yeah. I think to me, I’ve always worked, made an effort to be as practical as possible. And realizing with my patients, and even with when I was back in the day at the health food stores and working with people like nutritionists and such, I just realized how important it was to be practical about things. Right? Because, you know, not everyone has a bazillion dollars to spend on their health. And it’s important to be able to also have something that will tell a doctor what’s going on with your body. And I soon realize that your stools are like the number one product that your body produces, right?

Like our body really doesn’t produce many things. It produces sweat, it produces, you know elimination products, urine, the breath and then there’s poo. And if you think about it in like from a microcosm to a macrocosm manner, you know, in a business, if you’re producing a product, what happens if your product isn’t coming out right? You know there is a problem with the assembly line or maybe the management or maybe how the corporation is run.

Like you keep on going deeper and deeper and deeper to find the problem. And then I realized, you know, our stools are exactly that. It’s such an amazing tool that really, you know, has so much detail. It’ll tell us so much about the body, mainly because it comes from the area of the body, the gut, which is the center of health, which, you know, really I think it’s an undisputed term at this point in like the literature and with healthcare practitioners.

And I think that we all can agree, you know, like health begins within the gut and then it extends from there just because it’s our manufacturing facility. So if we’re able to take our stools and really dissect it and really understand like all the nitty gritty, you know, the gritty part about your stools, you can really get a lot of clues into what is happening in your health.

And I ended up noticing like with my study on stools, and I studied it from many aspects as well too, right? So both personal interest, obviously, because of having suffered and, you know, from time to time having an irritable bowel again because I’m not careful. Like everyone, we slip up, we can go down the bad path. Personal experience and then with patients seeing it repeated.

And then, again, going and doing a deep search within the literature and finding literature that is undiscovered that has been left there in the archives of PubMed that really needs to be brought up to the light and it’s important to bring up these factors. But because poo, of course, it’s not shiny, it’s not elegant, people, like the microbiome. People don’t really want to talk about your stools. They shy away and they get scared of it.

And it truly is… I’ve devised a scale of actually 11 characteristics of poo that can tell you everything from vitamin deficiencies, mineral deficiencies, issues within your hormonal system. So, you know, do you have high estrogen, low progesterone? It’s incredible, issues within your nervous system. Is there a high cortisol in your system? And even issues within your immune system health.

So it can give us such a wide variety of tools and as a clinician, I find when a patient knows their stool, my god, I can assess them so much quicker, I can treat them that much better, that much more effectively. And if all my patients would come in with that pre-knowledge of like what their stools are saying about them… Number one, there is about, you know, about 10 steps they could have done before even coming to see me, right? Which in its own would save them time, would and save them money, would save them aggravation.

And then number two, when they come to me, that’s it. Like the solution is a lot quicker. So my goal has become to really just educate people and have them really know what their stools mean to them. Because then they can, then with a laser beam focus, you know, they can go towards, “Okay, I have this nutrition deficiency,” or “Hey, I’ve got, you know, estrogen dominance” or “I’ve got menopause” or “I’ve got this hormonal problem, PCOS.” They can go and then they can deal with that specifically and then they can get a resolution in their health and they can really achieve optimal health, too, by gauging their stools.

Ari Whitten: Yeah. Wonderful. You know, as, as you were talking there, I had a vision of you like walking down the grocery store aisle and then running into one of your patients or one of your patients seeing you and yelling across the grocery store, “Dr Marisol, my poop, it’s amazing!” Just curious, has that ever happened to you.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Absolutely. It’s funny, right? Like it’s literally our first conversation starter. So, you know, I’ll be at the grocery store sometimes they’ll be like, “Hey, what is it again when it’s floating? Or I’m hyper wiping, I don’t remember.” Right, so, and I’m so open to it at this point that, you know, I’ll tell anyone what I do and I talk about it constantly, so I just made sure to, you know, observe dinner table etiquette. If people aren’t okay with it, I won’t do it.

Ari Whitten: Yeah, sure. Knowing you, and we had a chance to hang out a few weeks ago, and knowing you, it’s obvious that you’re very comfortable with this topic situation, with this topic of conversation. But I’m just imagining the other people in the store overhearing this conversation being like, “Oh my,” yeah, and going home with stories to tell their families.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: And what I find, too, you know how you said that you think women, I think women are actually more open to talking about their stools than men are.

Ari Whitten: Oh, really?

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Yeah. In my clinical practice, I’ve just found that women are okay with it. Men, like they really initially will shy away with it. And then I have to warm them up to the subject. Maybe it’s because I’m a female and they’re talking to me about their stools. Maybe a guy-to-guy conversation might be a little bit different, but that’s what I’ve noticed over time. So it’s just a neat factor. But I just want to make it open conversation and make it like… You know, like even like passing gas, like farts, why do we laugh about that so much, right? Like it is, this is the most natural of the natural of the natural, right? There’s nothing more natural than going to the bathroom. We would not survive if we did not have this function if we didn’t make that number one product of our body. You know, it’s got the rap for being number two, but I think it should be number one, you know. Like we really have to talk openly about this and that’s what’s going to get us out there in the world and help people as well too.

What your poop is telling you about your health

Ari Whitten: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I agree with you. So let’s talk about specifics of poop. What can our poop tell us about our bodies and what’s the ideal poop that we’re looking for? I think you believe, I believe you called it the “royal flush” if I remember it correctly. So talk to me about what that is and what poop says about us.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Awesome. Okay. So we’ll start with the royal flush. So I think that is probably the easiest to understand. The first thing is that, and I’ll give, I’ll help you feel what the royal flush feels like you. It’s like it begins with the urge to purge, right? So you have to run to the bathroom, you sit down on the toilet and it’s such a rapid bowel movement. I say it’s from zero to 60 in three point five, boom, you’re at the finish line, right? So you’re done. And you get up, you know, you wipe your bum elegantly, of course. And the paper should have absolutely no stick, no poo, no stools on it. It should be absolutely wiped clean. And this is something that’s very… very rarely does this ever happen to someone who I talk to for the first time. Their, you know, their stool is on their paper. But as their gut heals, they have clean wipes.

So that’s a super important factor. And then you also have a feeling and a sensation in your body that you kind of know that even though that stool was so quick, you know, it’s huge, right? So, I like to say you’ve landed a legend. So you know, you stand up, you inspect the toilet bowl, and you actually can’t even see your legend because it’s so heavy and dense and it actually has sunken down the hole, down the hole and left no marking. So no skid marks, no coffee grind, nothing on the toilet, right? And the other thing is that there is no smell, right? Because a healthy stool would have absolutely no smell. So those are like some of the differentiating factors about the perfect poo and what it should look like? Right? And it’s typically a sausage size. Typically, you do that once a day.

The ideal measurement for a stool is from your personal wrist to your elbow. And that’s the amount of stool you should have done every day, a daily bowel movement. So that’s what the amount of food, fluids, and fiber that you have eaten the day before. So that basically, and you know, the end of that is that you walk out of the bathroom and you are light, your belly is flat, you feel good, right? Because you’ve eliminated all the junk and byproduct that needs to come out of your body. So that is what I call the “royal flush,” right? That is the perfect poop.

The main signs of an unhealthy gut

Ari Whitten: So what kinds of things might, I mean, there are obviously a number of different aspects to that royal flush. What kinds of things are you seeing as most common sort of visible signs or, you know, I guess overt signs I should say, visible or otherwise, that a poop is a sign of an unhealthy gut.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Well, number one I’d say is the hyper wiping. This something that your viewers or listeners can pay attention to right away is seeing if they are a hyper wiper or not. Because that is such a great clue that’ll show, tell us so many things. It won’t differentiate between if it’s just inflammation, general inflammation or if it’s inflammation caused by food sensitivities in the gut, or by a bad microbiome or bad gut bugs, right? Like the microbes that are in the gut, that they’re not the good type or if it’s like yeast overgrowth, it won’t differentiate. But it’ll tell us that that’s a problem that’s happening because there’s excess mucus within the intestine. So there’s inflammation, a dysbiotic gut, possibly food sensitivities, or it could be yeast, Candida, any other problems with the microbes. So that right away tells us that with the hyper wiping, and that’s probably one of the biggest things that I like people to know about immediately in our first visit. So hyper wiping is an issue, like clean wipe or messy wipe.

Smell is really important because smell will connotate a nutrient deficiency of zinc, and zinc is so important for male health, female health. We know that it helps with detoxification of excess hormones. It helps with general detoxification. We know zinc helps with mental health, right? Depression, anxiety. These conditions are all based on zinc being in a good status in our system. And so if we have an elevated smell, and specifically an elevated sulfur smell, it can denote a zinc deficiency within our body. So I really love telling patients about that as well, too. Just because zinc is an important mineral that we like to treat within our clinic quite a lot. And I’m sure you probably do as well, too, with energy, right, because mitochondria, it all depends on zinc status as well, too. So those are two really important ones that I talk to patients about.

And then frequency and consistency, right? So the fact that you are going daily and how long it is daily, right? We want it from the wrist to the elbow. Because those show stress, a problem with anxiety or depression. If you’re going too much you could have excessive anxiety.

If you are going too little, it could be a sign of depression. It can also be a sign of magnesium status as well. So whether you’re having too much magnesium or too little. Also a sign of electrolyte deficiencies. When the water isn’t brought into the compartment of the bowel, when it stays within the connective tissue, it’s typically a problem with electrolytes. And then, you know, a little prescription I give to my patients is adding salt, Himalayan salt to water with lemon. So make yourself basically an easy, easy electrolyte solution and drink that day, and that actually helps to rebalance how your electrolytes are shifting and moving in the compartments.

So those are just a few of the really important characteristics, like I call them the 11 golden nuggets of stools, that can just give you an idea of what to start to kind of look at or even just to start to do at home. I mean, how simple is it, and how non dangerous is it to drink an electrolyte drink daily to see if that changes your consistency of your stool or the amount that you’re eliminating, right? It’s a no-brainer that someone can do at home right away. And then, “Wow, look, I already have better stools just from doing that,” right? And if you poo better, you feel better, you have better energy, you live better, right?

Ari Whitten: Yeah. So the golden nuggets, 11 golden nuggets. Can you just quickly recap what those 11 are?

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: I can. I almost don’t remember them all the time. So I’m going to make sure I write them down as we go.

Ari Whitten: Yeah, I was going to say, are you going to be able to remember, because 11 is a lot, you know.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: I’m pretty good. I’m pretty good. Number one is color. Number two is consistency. Number three is frequency. Number four is transit time. Number five is clean wipe versus dirty wipe. Number six is the mess it leaves in the toilet bowl. Number seven is, okay, hold on. Color, consistency, frequency, transit time, clean wipe, mess it leaves in the toilet bowl. Smell, number eight. Oh gosh, I know this is bad. There’s just so many of them. I always go by my list or by my presentation. Transit time, the wipe that we have, the mess that it leaves, the frequency, the consistency, the color, the smell, the mess it leaves… Oh boy. Hold on. I’m having a little blank here. Let me just quickly go look at my notes. There’s sometimes too many and then I even myself happen to need a quick little reminder.

Ari Whitten: No, eleven is a lot.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: It’s so many of them. Oh, and it is not even here on my thing. I will remember it. You know, let me get back to you on them. But mess it leaves, clean wipe, I need to look a little bit more. But there’s 11 in general. And we always use them with our patients. And, to tell you the truth, initially we don’t even tell them all of them. I basically go through the key ones, which are the smell, the hyper wiping. And then from there allow them to learn the rest of them as we go along. But they will come to me. I just have to….

What your poop is telling you – frequency, volume, transit time, color, and more

Ari Whitten: Perfect. So let’s dig in a couple of specific questions that I have. Frequency, what is the ideal frequency and is there one? Should somebody be going at least once per day, at least three times per day. What’s the deal there?

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: So this is actually super individual to the person and it really depends on your entire circadian rhythm balance, right? Which is something when we’re talking about energy you know a lot about. So it’s ideal, at least to go once a day to three times per day and it really just depends on your pattern. So I’m okay as long as patients go one to three times per day. So it doesn’t have to…. But the key to that is that it has to be enough of a volume of stool. So they have to be going from wrist to elbow, so if they don’t do that amount, then there can be an issue. So that is, the frequency works with the volume of the stool. And that’s another one of the nuggets, you have the volume. Remembered it.

Ari Whitten: Yes, volume is on there. So, and volume is kind of that factor that you’re talking about from wrist to elbow, right? That’s basically a measure of volume.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Yes, exactly. Wrist to elbow.

Ari Whitten: Okay. So, as a followup to the frequency question, what about transit time? What does that look like and how can a person assess that?

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Awesome. So this is one of my favorite assessments. This is the very first assessment that I do with patients is transit time and what we’re looking is for the food and fluids and fiber to move throughout your gut within a 24 hour period. If it takes any longer then you’re constipated. If it stays, if it goes too fast and you’re shifting towards like an irritable bowel of the diarrhea type. So we’re looking for 24 hours and I always test it by doing the beet transit time test, where you basically, I do it for three days with patients. So the nighttime meal or lunchtime, whichever you choose is easier for you, I ask that the side dish be one cup of cooked beets. And you do that for three nights in a row or three lunches in a row. And you’re basically looking to see the following day when the red stools come out. But what happens is people have to be aware that when you do eat beets, you also happen to get red urine and you’re not bleeding. So if they do that, then they can see how long it takes their individual guts to move all the food, fiber and fluids out of their system. And then they can get a gauge as to whether their transit time is healthy or not healthy.

Ari Whitten: I’m laughing because I’ve seen a number of people who have eaten a meal with a lot of beets and then the next day, you know, had red stools and were going to call the hospital because they were convinced that they were bleeding and were terribly worried. And it’s like, “No, don’t worry. It’s just the beets.”

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Yeah. It’s an important thing to tell people, right? And so I just wanted all your listeners to be aware of that. You know, when you do the beet transit time tests you are going to…. And the urination occurs a lot faster than your stool, the coloring of the stools happen. So people immediately, within two to three hours, because the absorption of the beet juices will go and it’s passed through the liver and then into the kidney faster, so they’ll see that right away. So not to be afraid that they are hemorrhaging from the inside. It’s all good, it’s a natural process. But transit time is important. Those are the, those are the key things that we’re really looking forward to make sure that people get those proper stools, right?

Ari Whitten: Okay. And if somebody has a particularly long transit time, like, let’s say they often go two or three days in between bowel movements, what is that indicative of?

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: So that’s indicative of potential hypothyroid or a thyroid condition. It’s also indicative of estrogen dominance as well, too. So which oftentimes comes together with a low thyroid, we will see people who have estrogen dominance as well too.

They can have electrolyte disturbances, as I mentioned earlier. So when there are problems with moving… the body is a series of compartments. You’ve got your gut, you’ve got the extracellular space, the intracellular space, right? The space within the vessels, the spaces within the cells, the mitochondria space, your little area of specialty. And what happens is that the body has to be moving fluids, nutrients, waste in and out through these compartments. If there’s a problem with the electrolytes within the system, the fluids aren’t going to be shifting properly.

And so that’s where they could be constipated. I would start right away trying an electrolyte drink every day to see what that does, if that’ll change their stool consistency. Because even just with that, they can change their transit time. So that’s a great way to kind of, you know, in medical practice, we do disease diagnosis and you do different things to find out which disease it is. But that’s a great way that anyone could do at home is, “You know, I’m going to try and do this electrolyte drink and see what happens with my stool.” If there is a change then it could just be that. If there’s no change, then you got to look deeper and then go testing the thyroid, testing the hormones and seeing what’s happening there.

Ari Whitten: Got you. So what about one of these other golden nuggets? Color. I don’t think you’ve talked at all yet about color. So what kinds of things can that indicate and what should a person be looking for as far as the color of stool?

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Awesome. So the color of stool is important because we typically want to look for something brown and it can be any shade of brown. So, I call it dirt brown. So dirt comes in a whole bunch of different colors, right? From dark, dark brown to light brown. We don’t want a green stool. It doesn’t matter how many green smoothies you’ve consumed.

This is what my patients say, they’re like, “Oh my stool was green because I drink green smoothies every day.” If you have green stools, that’s a sign of low HCl and low stomach acid and an inability to actually convert chlorophyll into a brown color, right? Because it should oxide with the stomach acid. It is the way the gut is working.

Stool is also colored by bilirubin, but the stomach acid plays a role in converting the chlorophyll from the green vegetables that we can see them. We don’t want a green stool and we also don’t want a white colored stool because that could be a sign of a blockage happening within the gut. That is something that would require medical attention right away. And we definitely don’t want black stools, which can be a sign of bleeding in the upper intestine or upper stomach area, the esophagus and the stomach. And bright red colored stools… beets, first of all, make sure you just haven’t eaten a big plate of beets.

And number two, it could be that there’s actually bleeding either from a hemorrhoid or lower aspect of the intestine of the gut. So then we would, again, you know, seek medical attention for that just to check what is happening with it.

Ari Whitten: So I have a quick little story, a personal stool story that I want to tell here.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: I love it.

Ari Whitten: I went to Patagonia on a backpacking trip and rock climbing trip a couple of years ago. And one of the things they do when you get in the country is they will often take away any food items that you have with you. So they took away pretty much all the food we had.

Then we got to this little town called El Chalten in Argentina and it turned out like pretty much all of the backpacking sort of food that, like typical food that backpackers would take in their bags into the wild was out of stock. Like it was just, I guess, the time of year or something about what was going on at that particular time. Pretty much everything was out. So we literally went to the little tiny grocery store there and what we decided to get of the very limited choices that we had was bread, just like white bread, honey and cheese.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Oh my god.

Ari Whitten: And I’m not exaggerating. It was literally those three items that we were living on for about five days. That was it, just those three things. I think I didn’t go to the bathroom for two or three days eating that. Normally I go two or three times a day. And when it did finally come, it was white and it was hard as a brick and it was terribly painful. It felt like giving birth.

Not that I want to belittle what giving birth is like because I’m sure giving birth was a lot worse than what I experienced. Just trying to exaggerate for the sake of telling the story. It was the worst, most painful poo I’ve ever taken in my life and it was white and hard as a rock. So I think the quality of one’s diet clearly has an impact on this as well.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: And that’s it too, right? Consistency and timing and frequency. Those also are signs of food sensitivities and allergies as is hyper wiping. Actually, most problems with the golden nuggets, if you’re getting any of those shiny golden nuggets, what happens is that it could be indicative of food allergies.

So all of my patients, every single patient that comes to see me, we basically across the board test for food sensitivities or at least do an elimination diet, right? Because it’s the quality of your food, I mean, again, it’s a manufacturing facility. Your gut is a manufacturing facility. I used to call it the d-spot, right? It’s like where the digestion gets done.

And you know, if you’re putting bad quality raw material, you know, it’s not going to come out good the other end, right? So you have to really put in the best quality, organic, raw or cooked foods and just make sure that your fluid intake is proper and all the aspects are good, and that you’re, you know, your functions and your body are working.

That you’re making enough stomach acid, that you’re making digestive enzymes, that you’re, you know, you have a good smooth muscle contraction, because your gut has to do Paracelsus. Right? Which is like the manipulating, the moving of the stools out of the body. So it’s, yeah, it’s so dependent on what you eat. It’s crazy. Patagonia, by the way, is one of my bucket lists. Like I can’t, my mother’s from Uruguay, which is the country next to Argentina and I can’t, that’s on my list. I’m going.

Ari Whitten: Yeah, well I highly recommend, you know, of all the places I went down in Patagonia, El Chalten, a tiny little sort of backpacker town in Argentina, in the Argentina side of Patagonia. And the wilderness areas around there were my personal favorite of all the areas we went. Much to my wife’s chagrin because she’s of Chilean descent. So she probably would prefer that I’d say I like the Chilean side better. The Chilean side is gorgeous, don’t get me wrong, but my favorite spot was down in Argentina there.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: I love it. That’s awesome. Yeah. I’ll just, I’ll take my food, I’ll bring my own…..

Ari Whitten: I highly recommend not doing what I did as far as the diet, the best diet to eat. So…

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: And you know that’s a problem.

How your diet affects your stool

Ari Whitten: What’s that?

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Well, that’s a problem because our diet now, is that right? A lot of people are eating bread, dairy, wheat, sugar, right? And so this is why there’s such an epidemic of IBS. And you know, they say that there’s 30 percent of people are diagnosed with IBS. But those are only the people who actually speak up to their doctors and tell them that they have a problem with their gut, right? Because most people keep it quiet, right? So it’s a big thing.

Ari Whitten: Yeah. And a lot of people I would imagine are just eating, you know, obviously not necessarily just those three items that I was eating. But a lot of people are eating refined carbohydrate-rich and fat-rich diets that are devoid, and sugar-rich diets, that are largely devoid of fiber. And so I think in that sense, not all that dissimilar from the kind of diet that I was eating.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: No, like the, like if you, I always look at, I tell my patients like, look at this, the SAD diet, right? As they call it the standard American diet, you know, cereal. So that’s usually a wheat product mixed with milk. Right? So there you go, wheat and dairy. And then people typically say we’ll have a hamburger or sandwich and the bread, cheese, right?

And then, you know, maybe there will be some kind of processed meat, you know, if there’s lettuce, iceberg lettuce, we’re lucky. And then, you know, dinner, maybe the place where people have a little bit more vegetables, but I mean they just, we are just not eating enough. Our rule at clinic is, you know, there’s, it’s 10 servings of vegetables a day. Like grains. We try to almost completely avoid grains, very little of the grains except for quinoa, and we try to do more of a Paleo based diet, right?

To really help with the gut because it does make some big changes. Because there are certain foods like legumes can really affect our gut just because they’re hard to digest and when you’re trying to heal your gut, it’s a harder thing to do. Vegetarians often will have a little bit more of a problem resetting their gut just because of the types of foods that they’re eating tend to be a bit more abrasive on the gut. But there are ways around that, too. But we got to change our diet. It comes down to diet, right?

Ari Whitten: Yeah. I’m curious, just to digress on that point, how would a vegetarian kind of change their diet and get around some of those issues?

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Yeah, so when we put people on what I call a dysbiotic detox diet, so it’s like a diet… dysbiosis means that the gut doesn’t have the good mix of the good bacteria and the bad bacteria, right? So we want to have a mix of a lot of good bacteria and very little bad bacteria. So on this diet in a meat eater, a carnivore patient, you know, they would have no grains, only quinoa would be the only grain that they are allowed, because it’s actually not a grain it’s more of a seed, and Chia seeds. They can eat those things as well, too. Nuts and seeds, but no legumes. So no chickpeas, no kidney beans, none of the navy beans, none of those. No fermented foods at all, so no vinegar, no alcohol. It’s pretty strict.

And then mostly vegetables. Really, really healthy fats. My three, my trifecta for healthy fats is olive oil, avocado and coconut oil. And then, of course, healthy protein, so well sourced, you know, healthy fat protein. Birds, wild game, right, all that, all that type of thing. With the vegetarians, what we have to do is we have to reduce the amount of legumes and go for the legumes that are less irritating. So certain legumes are very irritating. Kidney beans, navy beans, black beans, those tend to be the top three highly irritating legumes.

So we remove those out of the diet and we will typically allow things like chickpeas, mung beans, and adzuki beans, which happened to be the ones that have the most nutrient content as well, and are just a little bit less irritating to the gut because of the sugars that are on the outer coating of the legumes irritates the gut. Soaking them helps a lot to improve that. Within vegetarians, we also encourage a lot more Chia seeds, a lot more nuts and seeds, but those all have to be soaked as well just to improve their absorption and to remove any of the cofactors that can cause problems and inhibit digestion.

Ari Whitten: Got you. Now when you’re talking about removing some of these foods, you’re not necessarily saying that this is a permanent change. You’re saying that this is a change that you do for a period of time during the gut healing phase and then after that you’re okay with people reintroducing a lot of these foods? Correct?

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Exactly. Yeah, so I take it step by step. Our first step typically actually happens to be just to introduce a little bit of therapeutic fasting. So just to give the gut a little bit of time and I don’t even emphasize the types of foods people are eating. I just want them to get the timing right so I’ll do a little bit of intermittent fasting, you know, fast. Green tea is an awesome tool to heal the gut lining and a lot of people don’t know this, but green tea, besides being an awesome anticancer herb and, you know, making you feel good, helping you have focus, it actually has components where it actually heals the gut lining, reduces inflammation and helps with resetting that gut bacteria. So the good gut bacteria. So it’s like super important in all my protocols is green tea and cutting out the coffee as much as possible.

And so starting with that and then after a period where, you know, a person gets used to, “Oh, I know how to therapeutically fast, now I can do this.” Then I transition them over to a stronger cleanse. I got that one month of, you know, elimination and avoidance of those foods that can be irritating and they get amazing changes within their gut. Within a month they can be a completely new person. And majority of our patients half the time, after that month, like so many of their symptoms are gone, they suddenly uncovered that what they came to me for was not what they’re treating now. Now it’s like, you know, the layers of problems have gone away and the real core of the issue is what we’re starting to fix. And then they can get good resolution within a year or so.

How our gut and poop affects us as we age

Ari Whitten: Nice. So how does, how does poop impact us as we age and does it impact things like hormones and does it relate to things like weight gain and I guess the aging process itself. Is there any kind of relationship there?

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Yes, yes, yes. So as we age, there are so many problems that occur with our digestive system. Number one, we start to produce less digestive enzymes. The biggest reason for that is because we stop digesting as well as we used to when we were younger, right? So we just don’t have the vitality, the energy, right? We don’t have all the components that our body working like clockwork like they used to. So when you’re not digesting properly and you have low stomach acid and you don’t digest enough protein, your body, then starts to shut down the amount of digestive enzymes that it makes because digestive enzymes are made from protein, right? So does that makes sense to you? So when that happens, we have less digestive enzymes and then we’ll eat a good healthy meal, we’ll eat that wonderful wild game that we just, you know, purchase and cooked up.

We eat it. But the thing is is we’re not going to be absorbing enough of it and it becomes this vicious cycle of us not having enough protein and not being able to make enough digestive enzymes. So that’s one thing that can happen with aging. So a good quick fix for that is if there are any issues with the digestion, for example, if it, you know, your stool, like… one of the other golden nuggets I forgot to mention was whether your stool is messy, like if it shows signs of undigested food or not. So we want a stool to be smooth and we don’t want it to have a lot of different foods or excessive amounts of texture because then you’re not digesting your food properly. That’s typically a sign of low digestive enzymes. And that’s with aging something that happens a lot. And that’s like a quick fix.

So you start taking digestive enzymes with your meal to see how you can improve that and then over time you start working also on stomach acid so that you can absorb your protein and then fix the rest of the stuff. So that’s one thing that can happen with aging. The other thing that can happen with aging is, you know, constipation because our hormones start to go out of whack very easily as we age. So thyroid, you know, our metabolism starts to slow down, our energy starts to slow down, our thyroid starts to become an issue. We can go into an estrogen relative dominance, progesterone and then that just slows down our gut significantly. And so then we become more and more constipated. As people age, they tend to have more constipation typically as opposed to that loose bowel. But it really, it also depends on your constitution, but that’s a big key sign.

And you know, the biggest problem with being constipated, if you’re not eliminating daily on a regular basis, is that you’re reabsorbing all the junk that needs to come out of your body. So it’s almost as though you would be eating like toxic waste and then putting that into your system, right? So if you’re not eliminating like you need to get that toxic waste out of your system and that toxic waste can be things like excess cholesterol that we want to get out of our body, excess estrogen hormones or even, you know, the xenoestrogens, which are the fake estrogens that come in from the environment. All those things will just keep on recirculating and then they keep on adding stress and burden to the body and you know, so overall it just exhausts your fuel tank, right? So your body becomes more and more challenged energetically.

The power of a castor oil pack

Ari Whitten: Yeah, absolutely. So in addition to some of the other strategies that you’ve talked about to improve stool, you know, the electrolyte solutions and fiber and things like that that you’ve mentioned so far. I know that you have one other really big tool in your tool belt that you haven’t mentioned so far. Castor oil. So talk to us about castor oil.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Awesome. Okay, this is my favorite by far. It changed my life and it has changed the life of my patients and I think it’s going to change the world. This is my opinion of castor oil. And it’s not something that is new at all. It’s actually one of the oldest, most legendary treatments that exist. Castor oil, this is a bottle of castor oil as an example, it comes from biblical times, right? From the, you know, the old ages. It’s referenced in the Bible as the oil that anoints. So when Jesus Christ would anoint someone who was sick, he would anoint them with castor oil.

Most typically, it was one of the oils that was used. It was used back in the day when the kings and queens would take their throne. Another cool thing about being the Queen of Thrown and working with castor oil, they would anoint the kings and queens as they owned their thrones and they moved up to become the king and queen. And same with the clergy so the religious priests, as they became popes, etc., and they elevated in their status, they would then be anointed with castor oil. In the tradition, the traditional Chinese medicine, castor oil was used topically for joint pain.

In the Ayurvedic Indian tradition of medicine, castor oil was used for abdominal problems. In tropical countries castor oil was used internally as a weekly or a monthly cleanser of the body of the intestines because it makes you go to the bathroom very effectively. It has so much history. It’s just incredible. Egyptians would use castor oil embalming the body to preserve the body and preserve its youth before it passed into the next life, which for Egyptians was the most important part of their life was the afterlife. And Egyptians like Cleopatra would use castor oil for beauty, for healthy hair, for healthy eyebrows, eyelashes, beautiful skin.

So castor oil is this treatment, that is, you know… if you go to any health food store, you’ll see castor oil on the bottom shelf of every single health food store because it just will never leave the health food store ever because it’s just a staple. And those people who really are hardcore into natural health, they know about castor oil like very well.

And there was this treatment called the castor oil pack, which was originated early on. Ayurvedic practitioners would use it. But it really came to fame in the early 1900s in the US with this bedside healer known as Edgar Casey. And these packs were adopted by the naturopathic profession. And the funny thing with these castor oil packs is that they work for absolutely everything, right? They are a treat-all because they work on the most important thing that you need your body to do in order to get better.

And these castor oil packs, I found when I got sick, I had been told about castor oil packs probably for about 10 to 15 years. And you know, throughout my entire journey in the natural health industry, whether I was in the health food stores, you know, all that time I was suffering from an irritable bowel.

People would tell me about the castor oil pack, but for some reason I wouldn’t do it. I was doing, Ari, like the supplements. I was doing the exercise, I was eating the right diet, I was getting all the testing done, I was doing all those things, but I still really wasn’t getting the right solution. And it ended up becoming the castor oil pack that when I really got sick in naturopathic school in third year moving to the fourth year that I then said, “You know what? I’m going to do this pack.”

The problem was this, is that if you’ve ever done a castor oil pack, for those people who have done a castor oil pack out there, they know that they’re extremely messy, inconvenient to do, uncomfortable. They are just not awesome. And that’s what really turned me off to doing them. So when I got sick, I said, “You know what? Enough with this, if I’m going to do it, I’m going to game change it, I’m going to make it better so that way maybe one day I can bring it to all my patients, all the people that I’ll serve.” And so that’s what I did. I created this really cool pack back in 2010.

It was my first version of the pack and then, you know, five years later I redid it and then, not even five years later, god… yeah, five years later I reinvented it, it took three years to bring back to market. And you know, I’ve been in practice about eight years now. And it is an incredible new evolution of the castor oil pack that’s easy to do. It’s like two steps, you know, pour the oil, put it on your body. Where it used to be about 20 steps to get a pack on your system. And like it’s awesome. It’s one of the best tools. I can’t even explain how good it is. The way that I explain it now is with really giving a simple measure. Number one, we live in a constant stress state right? Would you agree with me on that?

Ari Whitten: Yeah, absolutely, yeah.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: We’re just so stressed and it just impacts every single part of the body, right? So the first thing a castor oil pack does, because it’s a topical therapy and it works with the skin, it actually starts to retrain your body into going into the relaxed state, which is so important because in the relaxed state you heal. Your cleansing mechanisms can actually work. Your immune system is activated. Everything is working in the relaxed state. And we, if we’re living in a constant stress state, we need to be doing habits and practices like the castor oil pack that promote that relaxed state because that’s how we’ll get healthier, right? So that’s number one. Number two, they found that castor oil actually increases glutathione within cells.

Glutathione, the most important, you know, clean up molecule that our body makes and produces, but that we tend to, in our world have low levels of it because it’s hard to, because we’re constantly being bombarded with a lot of bad things that we have to take care of, right? So huge, huge on that aspect, improving glutathione. Number three castor oil packs, when you place them on the abdomen, they break down something known as biofilm.

And biofilm is that, it’s like a barrier that the bad microbes make that doesn’t allow any antimicrobials to get rid of those bad microbes. So it’s like their protective shield, you know, it’s the antimicrobials and the antibiotics so that your gut will stay in a bad environment long term. But castor oil will help to break down that microbiome, or sorry, break down that biofilm. And then when you’re taking your probiotics, you’re actually going to get good results with your probiotics because they’re actually going to be able to repopulate the gut in the proper way, right?

Because they will be fighting against all those bad, you know, like con biotics, I like to call them the cons of the microbes. So that’s another huge aspect. And then furthermore, castor oil also is major to reduce inflammation and inflammation is the root cause of all conditions, root cause of problems with the gut. So if you can reduce the inflammation in the gut, you can really reset the system. So those are huge, huge things that we’re constantly looking at how to improve those with supplements and exercise and everything. But this castor oil pack, you know, practiced regularly can do all those things for the human body. So I now do mine regularly. And it’s amazing the more research that now is coming out about castor oil because it’s this little gem that you know, has been in our lives for legendary times. Thousands and thousands and thousands of years have been used for thousands of years and now it’s having a resurrection and it’s really, you know, becoming an amazing oil again. And it’s finally claiming it’s thrown too.

Ari Whitten: Yeah. Beautiful. One small point on castor oil. And this is something that we chatted about in person because I was initially kind of skeptical. I’m like, well how can an oil that’s applied topically have all of these sorts of internal effects? And I would love for you to just answer that question here.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Yeah. So castor oil is the most unique vegetable oil out there. So it’s a vegetable oil, you know, no different than sunflower oil or well any type of other vegetable oil, corn oil, right? So it’s part of that type of family. But what makes it so unique is this, is that on the twelfth carbon… so all fats have, they have a glycerol backbone and then they have what’s called triglyceride chains. These chains are a series of carbon molecules. On the twelfth carbon molecule castor oil happens to have a OH group, which is an alcohol group.

That alcohol group makes castor oil incredibly flexible and a low molecular weight. So in order to actually pass transdermally through the skin and get below the epidermis, which is the first layer of the skin, and down into the dermis where all the circulation is and the lymphatic system, which is what will take the oil to all the other aspects of the body, the oil has to weigh underneath 500 Daltons. All the other vegetable oil weight above 500 Daltons, including things like coconut oil that your listeners might be using these days for topical on their skin’s to really get deep and, and improve their collagen. Castor oil, its molecular weight is 298 Daltons. So because of that, it is able to transdermally bypass the epidermis, go underneath what’s called the stratus corneum, which is like the corny layer of the upper layer of the skin, which is basically like the waterproof barrier. So castor oil will break down, go through that, get into the circulation and into the lymphatic system. And from there it’ll nourish the tissues. So wherever it is localized, so if you’re putting the pack locally on the liver, which is typically the most common place we do it because there it’ll target the liver, the stomach, the pancreas, the small intestine, the large intestine. You get the most coverage by putting it on that area.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: So super cool. Great question though. And it’s important because we don’t often think that transdermally things can work. But this is a nice nonoffensive way for people to get treatment. And you know, castor oil can be taken orally as well too. I don’t use it that often for that, except if I’m doing a very specific therapeutic cleanse or if someone is severely, severely constipated. But oftentimes we start first with the castor oil pack because castor oil packs can relieve constipation and it can improve irritable bowel, that is, going to the bathroom too much. So it does both. It’s incredible. Really good stuff.

Ari Whitten: Also, you’ve created your own castor oil packs. You were kind enough to send me a few samples of that, which I’m grateful for. I gave them to my wife and she was very, very happy with them. She loved it.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Perfect. Now that I know she’s Chilean, I’ll send her more. That’s awesome.

Ari Whitten: Nice. So, just real quick, why did you feel the need to create your own and why are your castor oil packs better than you know, something that someone might get elsewhere?

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Yeah. So there actually isn’t another castor oil pack on the market. There are maybe sheets or flannel layers that are available. The reason I did it was really simplicity sake. I noticed, you know, number one myself, right? I was not going to do the practices until something was easy to do. I just wasn’t going to do it. I’ve always been a busy person and, you know, we’re just, we’re living in this day and age where we want things quick and we want things easy. So that was the first impetus for me to do it. Number two is that I knew that it was a really valuable therapy and when I was prescribing it before the pack even came out to market, none of my patients would do it without a tool. They would say they would do it and then they like, “Oh, it was so hard to find this and find that.” There were too many steps that made it way too hard.

So I just like to make things super simple in all aspects of my life. And so this was this call to make it simple. So what I ended up doing was taking a castor oil pack, which would take 20 steps originally. My first model of the castor oil pack broke that down to 10 steps and this is the second model, which now has broken it down to two steps. So, you know, as in life you’re always improving. And so this is an improvement of the first version of it and literally what’s great about it is that, number one, castor oil packs can be messy. So this pack makes it not messy because it’s an impermeable layer on the outer shell. It’s an awesome organic cotton sherpa on the inside. All you do is pour the castor oil on the organic sherpa and you wad it and you place it on your belly and that’s it.

And then you can also, where before with the castor oil pack you were forced to just lay there and sit down and not move. Now with the castor oil pack, I allow people the flexibility to, you know, have the choice. So at the beginning of their treatments, if they’re too busy, they have to make dinner for their kids, make their lunches, they can do that. As long as they’re wearing their pack, they’re still getting the benefit. Of course they will get more benefit if they lay down there and try to make an effort to relax, but they’re at least a gateway into the relaxation process. And over time with doing these packs, you then start to see like, “Oh, you know, I’m going to give my… every time I put my pack on, I feel really calm, I feel really good. I’m going to go maybe sit and be quiet for a few minutes.”

So we actually now have used them as a gateway to meditation for lots of our patients, too. We say, “Hey, you know, put your castor oil pack. You’re already used to doing a castor oil pack. Put it on your body. It will help you deep dive into your meditation a lot faster just because of how it works on that nervous system state.” There’s one feature, too, I forgot to mention about castor oil and the pack is that castor oil, this is great scientific research that just came out. So it proved what we have known for years. Castor oil packs are not to be used for women who are pregnant because castor oil actually will stimulate smooth muscle contraction. So this is very beneficial for somebody who has constipation because the gut is all, you know, smooth muscle. And so if you’re constipated, this will help to move your bowels and get your bowels moving.

But in a woman who is pregnant, we don’t want to do that because we don’t want to move the uterus and get unfortunately have an event that we don’t want to have occur until it is time. But we do use it to help with induction at times with patients, right? So just so there’s, those are the five features of castor oil, right? It, castor oil packs help to relax and calm the nervous system, breaks down the biofilms, improves glutathione, reduces inflammation, and then helps with smooth muscle contraction. So it’s just, it’s awesome, right? Like I don’t, there’s nothing much more I’d want it to do.

Dr. Marisol’s top three tips to restore gut health

Ari Whitten: Yeah, beautiful. So I want to thank you for your time. This has been excellent. And as my final question or request to you, I would love for you to give your top three quick sort of tips or recommendations of things for people to focus on if their gut health has been a problem for them. So just kind of your top three quick things.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Yes. Number one, you have to find out what your poo is saying about you because if you don’t, you can, you’ll just be going around in a circle and never, you’ll never hit the target, the nail on the head, right? So that’s number one. Number two, you have to figure out ways to create relaxation in your environment and in your body. So I love castor oil packs for that, as a gateway for that. But you know, going and delving into things like exercise, meditation, whatever it is for you, doing something along those lines because the gut is so highly correlated to your emotional state, you just can’t, you can’t be without that. And number three, watch what you’re eating. Like it all begins with your foods, your fluids and your fibers, right? So you have to be aware and listen to your body because your body will tell you everything that you need to know about what’s going on in your system.

So those would be my three top tips. And what I can do, I’m actually going to give you all my 11 golden nuggets before I go because I don’t want to leave you without that, okay? So to recap, it’s color, size, consistency, frequency, transit time, we’ve got the smell, it’s all about your wipe, you got to know how it lands, whether it sinks or it floats, the mess that it leaves in your toilet bowl, whether your stool is rough or smooth, and the feeling that you have, whether it’s full evacuation or a non full evacuation. So those are the 11 golden nuggets.

Ari Whitten: Awesome. I love it. Well, thank you so much Dr. Marisol. It’s been a pleasure. Where can people find more about your work, follow you, get your stuff and your castor oil packs, and get more information from you?

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Yes. I’d love for your audience to follow me on Instagram @drmarisol, d- r – m – a – r – i – s – o – l, queen of thrones. So that’s primary. Facebook as well too. So same thing, drmarisolqueenofthrones, and on my website at www.drmarisol.com. So those are the three best areas. My book will be launching April of 2019, and my book is called “Oh, Shit.” So those are… yeah, of course, right?

Ari Whitten: So great.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Yeah. And so that’s basically is the Bible about gut health. The connection with the mind, you know, regulating your rhythms, improving your digestion and really ending an irritable bowel. So it’s really part of my life’s work and it goes through all the steps on what’s going on in the system. And I have some links I believe I’ve given to you that people can start to download my Legends of the Throne, which gives people an idea of the different types of stool. And so that’s a nice clear pictographic, that can give them an idea of playful ways to start to investigate your poo basically is what I’d like to say.

Ari Whitten: Okay. Do you have a specific link? Do you want me to put a link in the notes on the podcast episode page of this episode?

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Yeah. I’ll send you the link for that and then they can get started with that. It’s a great way for people to just have an idea, you know, to just start to, if it’s something that you’re shy about talking about your poo, these are characters. It’s very easy. It makes you laugh. If you want to talk to your children about it, these pictures are great as well, too. All of our pediatric patients at the clinic just like love the Legends of the Throne, right?

Ari Whitten: They’re also great openers for meeting new people, you know, potential relationship partners and whatnot. Just, you know, talk to them about their poo and I’m sure that’ll work out well, right?

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Yeah. Well, it’s funny. We are working actually right now on a brand new offer for people to give them a great little introduction to the golden nuggets and it’s called the “50 shades of Poo,” so that’ll be coming out shortly. It’s a way to open up the conversation about poo in a funny way.

Ari Whitten: That’s great, I love it. Well, thank you again, Dr. Marisol and I really love how you’ve made this conversation, not taboo and made it so fun and funny. This is great and it’s been a blast doing this interview with you. Thank you so much.

Dr. Marisol Teijero – Queen of Thrones: Awesome. Thank you so much for having me and I just wish your listeners all the best and just for them to know that they can totally change their lives. They just have to do it one step at a time and one food at a time. So thank you so much.

Ari Whitten: Thank you.
